About the Golf Course
About the Golf Course
Founded in 1910, the Real Club de Golf de San Sebastián is the oldest golf club in the Basque region and the third oldest in Spain. Originally established in Lasarte, the club moved to its current location in the mid-1960s, settling on 125 acres of hilly, forested terrain near Mount Jaizkibel. This historic venue, which serves as the home club for legendary Spanish golfer José María Olazábal, is recognized as one of the founding members of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

Architecture and Design The course was designed by renowned French architect Pierre Hirigoyen when the club relocated in 1968. Hirigoyen’s design is characterized by its seamless integration into the natural landscape of the Basque Country. Course Layout: The 18-hole, par 71 course is situated on rolling, hilly terrain between Hondarribia and Irún. The design utilizes significant elevation changes and slopes as the primary defense, rather than relying heavily on water hazards. Aesthetic and Views: Players are treated to panoramic views of Txingudi Bay, Hendaye, and the Basque Pyrenees. The course is largely tree-lined, set within a woodland environment that adds both beauty and technical difficulty. Clubhouse Architecture: The clubhouse is housed in the Bordagain farmhouse, a structure designed in a sober and elegant traditional Basque style.
